So, you’ve got your dream color…
Now you need to know how to keep it fresh!
Hair color is an investment in time and money. Proper care after you color your hair is important! All hair-color fades, the more exotic the color the faster it will fade. Color safe shampoo is a must to help prolong the life of your color. Below are some other things that will help.
Wear a hat in the sun! The heat from the sun opens your cuticle and allows color to slip away. Wearing a hat protects the cuticle.
Color lock leave in spray. These sprays have uva/uvb absorbers in them. Think of it as sunscreen for your hair. They make a great option for when you want to look fabulous and go outside.
Using cold water. Cold water helps close down the cuticle. This is especially important if you have any fashion colors in your hair(pink, purple, blue, green, etc.) You never want to use hot water on those!
Low temperature heat settings on irons. Are you seeing a theme here? Heat is not ideal for colored hair so keep it low!
Thermal protection sprays. These sprays wrap around the cuticle and protect the strand . Don’t use an iron with out one!
Wet your hair with water before jumping in the pool. Chlorine eats away at your cuticle and your hair color. If you are a frequent swimmer you may want to add color using extensions for better longevity.
Saturate your hair with color lock spray before heading down to the beach. The salt exfoliates the cuticle and the sun bakes it so you need to give it as much help as possible!
Color depositing shampoos. Not to worry color companies know the desire to keep your looking salon fresh for as long as possible. They have created pigmented shampoos in every shade imaginable! Using these between appointments makes a huge difference.
Blondes, make sure you are not using anything that has an orange ,peach, or off white tint. Those tints leave pigment in your hair resulting in unwanted brashness. Violet shampoos or blonde specific shampoos are best for you!
Brunettes, teal tinted products help prevent you from getting brassy!
Reds, actresses touch up their red color every two weeks to maintain tonality while filming. Using color depositing shampoo is a must for you between visits.
